Misidentification Syndromes:

It should be noted that DJP has not found any record of these distinctly named syndromes being found in the DSM – and that makes perfect sense. Fregolis, Capgras, Glass or Cement Delusions…these are all manifestations of psychosis. The brain in a state of psychosis (severely altered state of consciousness) can produce any bizarre belief…from the conviction that shooting a beloved rock star is a lovely thing to do to someone you idolize, to believing that one’s body is made of glass. The possibilities are endless and there is no need to try to assign a name to all of these delusions.

It is possible that psychoanalysts have pulled a thread from a central diagnosed pathology of the psyche (such as dissociation, attachment disorder, or borderline personality disorder…all ridiculous psychological explanations for neuropsychiatric illness) because the delusions were just too expansive and powerful to fit into their fanciful constructs. The article below about the ‘Glass Delusion’ is laced with absurd psychanalytical motifs.
